1974 İstanbul doğumlu olan Serkant Ali Çetin, 1996 yılında Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Fizik Bölümünden mezun oldu ve ardından aynı bölümde Deneysel Yüksek Enerji Fiziği alanında Prof. Dr. Engin Arık danışmanlığında CERN ATLAS deneyinde yaptığı çalışmalarıyla 1998'de yüksek lisans 2003'te ise doktora derecesini aldı. Nisan 2004'te Doçent olan Çetin aynı yıl Doğuş Üniversitesinde çalışmaya başladı. Serkant Ali Çetin Doğuş Üniversitesinde 2006-2009 arasında Fen Edebiyat Fakültesi Dekan Yardımcısı olarak görev yaptı ve Eylül 2009'da profesör oldu. Ardından 2009-2011 arasında Rektör Yardımcısı olarak görev yapmış olan Profesör Çetin 2011’de aynı üniversitede Fizik Bölümünü kurdu. 2015-2021 arasında çalışmalarına İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi Mühendislik ve Doğa Bilimleri Fakültesinde devam eden Çetin 2016’da Yüksek Enerji Fiziği Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezini kurdu. 2017-2018 arasında Rektör Yardımcısı, 2018-2019 arasında ise Mühendislik ve Doğa Bilimleri Fakültesi Dekanlığı yaptı. Profesör Çetin, Ağustos 2021 itibarıyla Deneysel Yüksek Enerji ve Parçacık Fiziği alanındaki çalışmalarını araştırma ekibiyle birlikte İstinye Üniversitesi bünyesinde sürdürmektedir. 2021-2022'de Fen Bilimleri Enstitüsü Müdürü, 2022'de Mühendislik ve Doğa Bilimleri Fakültesi Dekan vekili olarak görev yapmıştır. 2022 itibariyle Temel Bilimler Bölüm Başkanı olarak görev yapmaktadır. Serkant Ali Çetin’in Türk Deneysel Parçacık Fiziği camiasının bir araya gelmesi ve temsili konusundaki girişimiyle Deneysel Parçacık Fiziği Genel Kurulu ve Üst Kurulunun oluşması sağlandı. 2016-2019 arasında Üst Kurul başkanlığı yaptı. Camia tarafından belirlenen süreçlerle Türkiye'nin Avrupa Geleceğin Hızlandırıcıları Komitesi (RECFA - Restricted Eur. Com. for Future Accelerators) temsilcisi olarak seçildi ve 2017'de RECFA'nın Türkiye'ye ülke ziyareti yapmasını sağladı. CERN'de yapılan ATLAS ve CAST deneyleri ile Çin Yüksek Enerji Fiziği Enstitüsünde yapılan BES-III deneyinde ulusal koordinatör olan Çetin, Türk Hızlandırıcı Merkezi Projesinde ise üniversite temsilcisi olarak görev yaptı. Uluslararası atıf endekslerinde taranan dergilerde deneysel ve fenomenolojik birçok yayına imza atan Serkant Ali Çetin bu yayınlarına çok sayıda atıf almıştır. Serkant Ali Çetin 2004 yılında "Türk Fizik Derneği Profesör Şevket Erk Genç Bilim İnsanı Ödülü"nü, 2008 yılında "Türkiye Bilimler Akademisi Üstün Başarılı Genç Bilim İnsanı Ödülü"nü, 2015 yılında “Türk Fizik Derneği Profesör Engin Arık Bilim İnsanı Ödülü”nü, 2017 yılında ise “Türk Fizik Derneği Onur Ödülünü”nü almıştır. Profesör Çetin evli ve bir çocuk babasıdır.
